Start With an S&P 500 ETF (Best Beginner Option)
If I had to recommend just one place to start:
- Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO)
- SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY)
- REIT Real Estate Funds (0)
These ETFs invest in the biggest U.S. companies like Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, etc.
Why this is great for beginners:
- Instant diversification
- Low fees
- Historically ~8–10% average annual return long term
- Simple and low stress
If you're young (like 25, as you mentioned before), this is especially powerful because time is your biggest advantage.
Build an Emergency Fund First
Before investing aggressively:
- 3–6 months of expenses in a High Yield Savings Account (HYSA)
- Safe and liquid
- Protects you from selling investments in emergencies
Then Add Growth
After your foundation:
- 70–80% in S&P 500 ETF
- 10–20% in growth ETF (like QQQ)
- 0–10% in Reit (optional)
If you want crypto exposure:
- Only invest what you’re willing to see drop 50% without panic.
Avoid These as a Beginner
- Day trading
- Penny stocks
- Options trading
- “Hot tips” from social media
These destroy beginners more than they help.
If You Want My Simple Starter Plan
If you had $10,000:
- $7,000 ? VOO
- $2,000 ? QQQ
- $1,000 ? REIT (optional)
Then invest every month consistently.
